Samar Al-Yahya Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — Egyptians voting in the weeklong referendum vote in Jeddah came out in outright favor for the draft constitution with 81.5 percent of the electorate giving their approval here. Egypt Consul General Adel El Alfy announced the results of the constitution referendum Monday night. The weeklong voting took place at various Egyptian missions in the Kingdom. El Alfy said, out of the 44,395 accepted ballots, 36,203 voted “Yes” — 81.5 percent of the total votes, while 8,192 voted against the draft constitution — 18.5 percent of the total votes cast. The number of votes declared null and void was 405. Out of the 102,702 Egyptians registered in Jeddah polling station, 44,800 voted putting the turnout at 43.62 percent. Egypt's Embassy in Riyadh, meanwhile, began counting Tuesday the 67,000 votes cast. The total number of Egyptians registered in Riyadh since the parliament elections is 159,000. Other countries also announced results of the voting; Bahrain 2,135 said “yes” for 64% and 1,186 said “no” for 36%. Jordan 593 said “yes” for 70% and 261 said “no” for 30%. Sudan 243 said “yes” for 48% and 178 said “no” for 42%. Yemen 159 for 22.39 % said “yes” and 551 said “no” for 74%. Nigeria 42 said, “yes” for 58% and 31 said “no” for 42%. Results from the European missions are: Italy 1,001 said “yes” for 55% and 825 said “no” for 45%. Austria 256 said “yes” for 30% and 614 said “no” for 70%. Germany 533 said “yes” for 44% and 700 said “no” for 56%. Belgium 104 said “yes” for 37% and 177 said “no” for 63%. France 834 said “yes” for 38% and 1,366 said “no” for 62%. Ireland 118 said “yes” for 49.37% and 121 said “no” for 50.62%. Voting started on Dec. 12 and was to close on Dec. 15. But the deadline was extended till Dec. 17 till 8 p.m. (local time of each country).
