RIYADH – The Kingdom's Grand Mufti has called on judges to be fair and just in issuing verdicts on all cases that come before them. Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Asheikh, who is also the Chairman of the Board of Senior Ulema, said: “The courts should treat all individuals equally. There should not be any discrimination between the rich and poor.” The Grand Mufti made the remarks while inaugurating the first annual meeting of the heads of appeal courts in Riyadh on Wednesday. Al-Asheikh stressed the need for uniformity in judgments on cases in similar situations. “There should not be disparities in verdicts issued in cases of same nature from one city to another,” he said. Al-Asheikh called for a unified system for judgments that should be accessible to all judges. Asked about cases stalled in courts of grievances, Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Nassar, Chairman of the Board of Grievances, said they do not exceed 1.5 percent of the total cases handled by the courts. — SG
