BEIJING — China's Communist Party has put a top provincial official under investigation, state media said Wednesday, in the highest-level graft probe since its new leaders vowed to fight corruption last month. The inquiry into Li Chuncheng, vice governor of Sichuan province in the southwest, began earlier this week, the official Xinhua news agency said in a report on its website. No details of his alleged wrong-doings were revealed, but Li is the highest-level official to be ensnared in a widening crackdown on graft since Xi Jinping was named as ruling party head last month. Xi is due to take over the state presidency from Hu Jintao in March. — AP
