MADINAH — Heavy rains in the last few days have caused many electrical short circuits in different areas of Madinah, according to the Civil Defense. Many low-lying areas in the city have been under water and many cars trapped, Al-Hayat newspaper reported Saturday. The Civil Defense responded to at least 75 major rain-related incidents in the city. An elderly man was rescued when his vehicle was swept away by flash floods. Khalid Al-Jihani, spokesman for Madinah Civil Defense, said the elderly man was trapped at Abyar Al-Mashi and he held on to a tree until rescue teams arrived. He was transferred to hospital in an exhausted state. Al-Jihani said Civil Defense teams were positioned at 25 points in Madinah under the supervision Zuhair Sebaih, director of Madinah Civil Defense. The road between Madinah and Al-Mahad was closed due to dangerous floods. The Madinah municipality was draining rainwaters from flooded intersections. — SG
