JIZAN: Heavy rains lashed Jizan region Thursday including Jizan city, the villages of Samta valley and governorate; the centers of Al-Muwassam, Al-Tuwal, Al-Sahi and Al-Harth; and the mountainous areas and their villages. The rains were accompanied by severe winds and dust that hampered smooth flow of vehicular traffic on the main streets and intersections forcing the mayoralty to declare a state of alert and deploy tanker trucks and water pumps to pump out rainwater accumulating in various areas. Sa'eed Al-Huwaifi, Manager of Saudi Arabian Airlines in Jizan region, said the heavy rains led to the postponement of flights to and from the region, especially since they were accompanied by dust storms. Meanwhile, maritime transport to and from Farasan Island was also disrupted. Civil Defense rescue teams were also deployed to look for a youth who drowned at the Northern Corniche. Some areas suffered power outages. One man was reportedly killed and two injured in rain-related incidents.
