Thamer Qamqoum Okaz/Saudi Gazette ARAR — Ali Hassan Ali Fadel, a Saudi detained in Al-Nassyria prison, has been convicted of terrorism and sentenced to death. Sources in Iraq said Fadel was tortured and his confessions were extracted from him under duress while he had proved to the court that he had entered Iraq to visit his friends in Al-Mosul. He said the court based its decision on an allegation that he was leading a terrorist cell in Telafr at Neonawa Governorate in north Baghdad. A copy of the verdict issued by the District Court in Al-Karkh in Iraq against Fadel indicated that the court based its verdict on the preliminary and judiciary investigations which said he was arrested on Sept. 6, 2005 for leading an armed gang implicated in undermining the country's law and plunging the country into chaos. He was also convicted of using another name while resisting arrest. The court said in its verdict that he entered Iraq via Syria along with six Arab fighters without referring to their nationalities.
