JEDDAH — Thousands of worn tires left in the open at the Industrial City in Jeddah contributed to a serious fire in the area. Col. Saeed Sarhan Al-Ghamdi, Jeddah Civil Defense spokesman, blamed the mayoralty for not listening to his organization's warnings about leaving worn-out tires in the open. He said three firefighting teams rushed to the scene to put out the blaze that had spread due to the high winds and highly flammable tires. Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Nahari, spokesman for the mayoralty, said the local body did not receive any such warning from the Civil Defense. He also said the waste dumping area where the fire broke out was a closed service area, which did not fall under the mayoralty's jurisdiction.
