JEDDAH – The Interior Ministry on Tuesday refuted rumors circulated through social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook claiming Muflih Al-Ghamdi, a terror suspect arrested three years ago, died inside a prison while another prisoner, Sulaiman Al-Alwan, was denied proper medical care. Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki, the Interior Ministry spokesman, dismissed the claims as untrue, and said rumormongers are abusing technology to spread sedition. “Some of these people even gathered outside prisons and engaged in illegal acts to distort facts and create worries in the minds of prisoners' relatives,” Al-Turki said. “The rumor spread about Muflih Al-Ghamdi doesn't have a shred of truth in it, and Sulaiman Al-Alwan is receiving medical care for a gallbladder stone.” Al-Ghamdi will continue to appear at court hearings to face charges related to joining the Al-Qaeda network, traveling to Afghanistan, entering the Kingdom illegally, helping terrorists to cross into the Kingdom, renting a warehouse to store weapons, providing shelter to terrorists and raising donations for Al-Qaeda, the spokesman said. Al-Alwan is facing charges related to terror financing, incitement of terrorist acts, making contacts with Al-Qaeda operatives and giving shelter to wanted terrorists.
