RIYADH — A senior Saudi official has warned the public to be cautious about rumors spread through social networking sites. In a statement Tuesday, Prince Mit'eb Bin Abdullah, Minister of State, Member of the Cabinet, Commander of the National Guard, warned that these rumors infringe on the country's security and should be dealt with “wisely and logically.” Prince Mit'eb cautioned the people against taking such information seriously, saying: “We must not allow rumor mills to flourish.” He was speaking after receiving senior military and civilian officials at the National Guard headquarters here. Prince Mit'eb spoke about the bountiful blessings the Almighty has bestowed on the nation and called on all branches of the military to dedicate their full resources to preserve the country's unity and integrity. Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki, the national security spokesman at the Ministry of Interior, said rumors being circulated via social media by certain individuals claiming to be security officials were totally fabricated and had nothing to do with the minister of interior or his assistant for security affairs. “These rumors are baseless and don't have a shred of truth in them. Only the national security spokesman and spokesmen of relevant security sectors are authorized to make statements in the name of the Ministry of Interior.” “Stern action will be taken against those who violate these guidelines,” Al-Turki warned. — SG/SPA
