LONDON — Manchester City beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 to stay two points behind leader Manchester United in the Premier League, but Chelsea lost ground in the title race when it could only draw 1-1 at home to Liverpool Sunday. Chelsea dropped points at Stamford Bridge where skipper John Terry scored on his return from a four-match domestic suspension before being carried off with a knee injury after an accidental collision with Luis Suarez 19 minutes later. Suarez then headed Liverpool's equalizer 17 minutes from time. United, which beat Aston Villa 3-2 Saturday, has 27 points from 11 matches, followed by City on 25, Chelsea on 24, and Everton and West Bromwich Albion on 20. Champion City came from behind with goals from Sergio Aguero and a late winner from substitute Edin Dzeko to beat Tottenham Hotspur and maintain its unbeaten start. Spurs, who had won their previous three away league matches, went ahead when Steven Caulker headed home a Tom Huddlestone free-kick after 21 minutes to threaten City's unbeaten record. City though, took control after halftime with Aguero scoring a deserved equalizer after 65 minutes when he planted the ball wide of the diving Brad Friedel. Dzeko, who replaced Carlo Tevez with 17 minutes to play, then struck in the 88th minute when he controlled a chipped pass from David Silva and lashed the ball past Friedel for the winner. The victory lifted City to 25 points, two behind leader Manchester United. In another match Kevin Nolan returned to St. James' Park to haunt his former side, scoring the winner as West Ham beat Newcastle 1-0. In a game featuring multiple reunions, West Ham manager Sam Allardyce, who managed Newcastle for eight months until January 2008, came away with all three points at the expense of his opposite number Alan Pardew, who managed West Ham from 2003-06. Nolan scored from close range in the 37th minute, converting a pass from Joey O'Brien to secure the Hammers' first win in Newcastle in 14 years. The victory was West Ham's first of the season outside of London. The defeat was just Newcastle's second in nine league games. — Agencies
