Abdulrahman Al-Ali Okaz/Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — The Civil Defense is investigating the death of a five-year-old child who drowned in a sewage tank in Jeddah. Lt. Saeed Bin Sarhan, Civil Defense spokesman in Makkah region, said one of the local operations rooms received information about the incident. Rescue teams were immediately dispatched and recovered the victim's body from a three-meter deep manhole in Al-Rawdah district. Investigations were conducted by the attending Civil Defense investigation officer. Witnesses said the manhole had two openings. One opening was covered, while the other was not. The child fell in the uncovered hole. Officials of the company responsible for the manhole were called in for questioning. The child's parents and witnesses were also questioned.
