JEDDAH — Team Flexpack Tornado split its assignments in different categories. In the C Category, the Tornado lashed out on its opponent as it blanked team Garden City 4-0, while its LMX entry tied the sets at 2-2, but lost the match due to points 20-25 at the hands of team ABTC.
ABTC was also successful in its Category B2 campaign when it defeated team NCB 3-1 at the third week of the eliminations round at the Hotel Al Bilad tennis courts here.
Flexpack Tornado team showed amazing form in its Category C assignment as it went past hapless Garden City. Starting with Rey Gutlay/Floro Anog Jr. who were taken to tie-break by Garden City's Edwin Chu/Raffy Fuentes, the Tornado survived the first set to win 8-7. In the 2nd set, Pete Arrozaluz/Egay Nique had a more impressive game as they pummeled Brendo Carpio/Lito De Guzman 8-2. Leading 2-0 in the match, Obet Arpon/Macoy Hernandez could sense victory as they coasted to an easy 8-1 win against Arleen De Venecia/Eduardo Benavidez in the 3rd set as Sonny Galit/Roy Panes reigned supreme in the 4th set with another 8-1 game over Arnel Romerosa/Roger Villaula to complete the 4-0 sweep.
Ace Breakers Tennis Club (ABTC) team became a stumbling block for the LMX contingent of Flexpack Tornado. Tied 2-2 at the end of regular play, ABTC was awarded the match due to its higher points in each set. The first set was won by Tornado as Jojo Alipante/Egay Nique beat Ali Sakay/Amen Dipatuan at 8-5. ABTC's Roel Manarang/Ramil Ramos countered with an 8-1 winning margin over Ronnie Alvarez/Ruben Dunque in the second set.
Flexpack with Jun Inotantes/Macky Hernandez controlled the third set at 8-4 against Gilbert Bruno/Saipoddin Dianalan. With ABTC badly needing to win the 4th set, Ogie and team captain Egay Go went all out to coast to an 8-3 victory against Jojo Lontac/Pete Arrozal to tie the match at 2-2 and take the win via points 25-20. ABTC's Category B2 entry also saw victory in their game against team NCB. A tie-break finish in the first set which NCB's Sohail Al-Hafez/Jomari Lumogdang won 8-7 over Gilbert Bruno/Sol Bartolome did not deter ABTC's as it controlled the next three sets with identical 8-3 scores to post a 3-1 match victory.
Initially with the second set win of Ramil Ramos/Nilo Borata over Lito Mosquera/Adan Republica, followed by Egay Go/Ali Sakay against Sam Silvestre/Joey Ibay in the third set and Cliff Castaneda/Rommel Divinagracia defeating Judex Batoy/Manny Dela Cruz in the fourth and final set.
Organized and managed by the Association of Tennis Clubs, Jeddah (ASTEC), this team tennis tournament is held in partnership with Al Baik Food Systems Co. as the major sponsor under the aegis of its PR Manager Bassam Al-Seyofi and Marketing Coordinator Mahmoud Al-Jaber. Others supporting the event are: Deltaz Marketing (Racquet Shop) thru Maher Tebakhi and Amin Malik and Al-Raddadi Clinic thru Ahmad Abdulrahman, Dr. Jethro Fajardo and Tony Bustamante.
