Fahd Al-Manaee Saudi Gazette MAKKAH – Twelve pilgrims of different nationalities have undergone open-heart surgery operations at King Abdullah Medical City in Makkah since the beginning of the Haj season, according to Dr. Adil Tash, director of the cardiology center at the medical city. The center performs open-heart surgeries, valve repairs and artery replacements among other medical services for patients with heart conditions. Patients who had open-heart surgery included a man aged 91 and two girls aged 16 and 17, said Tash. All patients who underwent the operations are in good condition and some of them were transferred to the wards while some are still under medical supervision, he added. “The patients who are still in the hospital will be transported by medical teams to Arafat to perform Haj.” The patients thanked King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and those who run the hospital, which has the best medical technology and renowned consultants in their specialties. One of the largest healthcare facility in the Kingdom with 1,500 beds, the hospital can perform advanced cardiology, oncology, hepatic surgeries and organ transplants.
