The third quarter of this year was difficult for PC vendors. Gartner's numbers show that globally, 87.5 million PCs were shipped in the past three months, down eight percent from last year's total of 95.45 million units. According to Gartner, retailers bought fewer computers as they tried to ensure a clear out of old stock before the launch of Microsoft Windows 8. Lenovo outsold other vendors due to its focus on the business segment, which will largely ignore the launch of the new operating system.
