Times are tough for PC vendors as consumers continue to put their money in tablets and smartphones - or just choose not to buy at all. Acording to a report from Gartner, worldwide PC shipments were flat this past quarter, just like they were for the previous six quarters before that. PC shipments globally totaled 87.5 million units in the second quarter of 2012. That is a decline of 0.1 percent from the second quarter of the previous year. The expectation for good sales of thin and light Ultrabooks has not yet materialized. HP is still holding on as the world's top PC maker. Lenovo is in second place and is using aggressive pricing to pressure HP to capitulate. Gartner said Lenovo now has 14.7 percent of the market, compared to HP's 14.9 percent. Acer and Dell are also closely matched with Acer at 11 percent in third place followed by Dell with 10.7 percent market share.
