Van Pelt moves ahead
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 21 - 10 - 2012

PERTH – American Bo Van Pelt rolled in a 15-meter putt at the last hole to grab a one-shot lead after the third round of the $2 million Perth International at Lake Karrinyup.
“Once in a while the hole gets in the way,” Van Pelt told reporters.
His eight-iron approach had finished on a back tier of the green and he was looking at a possible three-putt.
“Lo and behold the ball goes in,” said the world No 24.
Van Pelt closed with a 67 to finish on 12-under 204, one-shot clear of fellow American Jason Dufner (67) and two ahead of 20-year-old Emiliano Grillo of Argentina.
Grillo, seeking his first win as a professional, battled bravely for his 73.
Van Pelt, paired with Grillo, said the youngster should not be disheartened.
“He played really well and must have had five or six putts which hung on the edge today. There is plenty more upside for him (Grillo) to take out of the round,” the American said.
Grillo had an outstanding amateur career and played senior golf for his country when he was 14 years of age.
Van Pelt said the key to his score had been the four par fives at Lake Karrinyup which he has played them in 10 under par.
Petterson opens up lead
In Incheon, South Korea, Suzann Pettersen of Norway opened a five-stroke lead after two rounds at the LPGA KEB-HanaBank Championship Saturday, after firing 68 for a two-day total of 13-under 131.
Pettersen leads South Korean Ryu So-yeon in the three-round tournament on the par-72 Ocean Course at the Sky72 Golf Club.
On Friday Pettersen set the course record with a blistering nine-under 63.
Lurking right behind at seven-under is defending champion Yani Tseng. The Taiwanese had an up-and-down 70 with five birdies along with three bogeys.
South Korean Pak Se-ri shot the low round of the day with a bogey-less 67, while Sandra Gal of Germany followed her 69 Friday with a 68 Saturday.
Only six out of 68 players broke 70 on Saturday, a day after 23 shot in the 60s in milder conditions.
Ramsay stays in front
Richie Ramsay of Scotland held on to his lead despite struggling with a cold putter in the third round of the Hero Indian Open in Bangalore Saturday.
Ramsay, who has held on to the lead since day one, posted a one-under-par 70 for 11-under-par 202 to hold a narrow one-shot lead over Asian Tour Qualifying School graduate Jaakko Makitalo of Finland.
Makitalo, playing one flight in front of Ramsay, charged into contention for a first Asian Tour win as he returned with a 68 at the $1.25 million event.
Thailand's Thaworn Wiratchant (67), winner of the 2005 Hero Indian Open and 19-year-old Panuphol Pittayarat (69) were a further shot back, along with James Morrison (67) of England at the Karnataka Golf Association course.
Atwal grabs lead
India's Arjun Atwal carded eight birdies and a lone bogey to rocket into a one-shot lead over Davis Love III and Jim Furyk after Friday's second round of the McGladrey Classic at Sea Island in Georgia.
Atwal was sublime en route to a seven-under-par 63 on the Seaside Course.
It moved Atwal, who has made just 11 cuts in 25 starts this year, to a 10-under-par total 130, one shot clear of host and 2012 US Ryder Cup captain Love (66) and veteran Furyk (65) at nine under.
PGA Tour rookie and overnight co-leader Bud Cauley was two shots off the pace after following up his opening-round 62 with an even-par 70, in a share of fourth place with Americans David Toms (67) and Australian Gavin Coles (65) at eight-under.
American Michael Thompson (68) was in a group of six players tied for seventh place, three shots behind Atwal. — Agencies
