BEIJING — Defending champion Tony Martin won the second stage of the Tour of Beijing for the Omega Pharma-Quickstep team in a powerful solo finish Wednesday. The German rider won the 126-km stage, which started near the Bird's Nest Stadium, the iconic 2008 Olympics venue, after breaking away from a leading group on the descent following the final climb. The time trial world champion held off the chasing pack to finish in 2 hours, 37.49 seconds. Astana's Francesco Gavazzi and Ero Capecchi of Liuigas were second and third, 46 seconds back. Martin is 50 seconds clear of Gavazzi. — AP
