NAJRAN – The Najran Health Affairs have launched investigations into the case of a young woman, Saeeda, who died after being given contaminated blood at King Khaled Hospital here. Khaled Balabil, Najran Health Affairs spokesman, told the local press that investigations started after the woman's family filed a complaint with them, stating that their 23-year-old daughter suffering from AIDS symptoms was injected with impure blood, which resulted in her death. The authorities are now questioning a group of doctors for the alleged error. Balabil said the allegations leveled by the parents against the doctors contradict the latter's report, which states that the cause of Saeeda's death was toxemia that caused the failure of her respiratory and blood circulatory systems. The report also indicated that Saeeda suffered from multiple organ failure. Muhammad Hadi Al-Mahamid, Saeeda's father, said she was suffering from high temperature and anemia when she was admitted to the emergency ward of the King Khaled Hospital. He said when the doctors examined her they prescribed blood transfusion; and when she received the blood her complexion changed and she started vomiting. The attending doctors defended their case by saying that these were normal symptoms associated with blood transfusion. Al-Mahamid said that after Saeeda was discharged, she was re-admitted to the ICU because her condition was deteriorating. After being admitted to the ICU most of her vital organs such as the liver, pancreas and lungs stopped functioning followed by a cardiac arrest, Al-Mahamid added. He appealed to the minister of health to personally intervene in the case to punish the doctors who are responsible for his daughter's death. – SG
