JEDDAH – This year, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance has focused more on using electronic advertising boards at main squares and streets in Makkah and Madinah to educate pilgrims on the Haj, said Talal Al-Aqeel, adviser to the Minister of Islamic Affairs. Al-Aqeel, who is also the chairman of the Islamic education committee, said the ministry has compiled over 6 million books, films and pamphlets in different languages for domestic pilgrims. For overseas pilgrims, the ministry has made 12 million Holy Qur'an copies and recordings in 32 languages, he added. “The ministry is also cooperating with 90 satellite channels as well as local Saudi TV and radio to air educational programs about the Haj.” “Upon arrival through land, air and sea entry ports, each pilgrim will be provided with two Haj books, a copy of the Holy Qur'an and a Haj CD. Upon departure, each pilgrim will be given four Haj books. These programs and activities come in line with the ministry's policy that seeks to educate pilgrims about the easiest ways to perform Haj and Umrah rituals according to the Prophet's tradition,” Al-Aqeel added. “We've used very simple and creative methods to simplify information and get it across to pilgrims in the best way. Everyone will notice the difference in this year's educational programs and films that rely on the principle of moderation. We want pilgrims to understand the obligations and rulings related to Haj and perform the rituals in the simplest way possible.” — SG
