JEDDAH – Saudi Arabia is increasingly setting up sports facilities in the Kingdom with the aim to encourage more residents and citizens to engage in sporting activities, given the major benefits of exercise, physical activity and sports. In addition, all levels of the Saudi educational system – from kindergarten through university – emphasize the importance of sports. While traditional sports such as horse and camel racing, falconry and hunting have always been popular in Saudi Arabia, today modern sports like soccer, basketball and most notably squash, have a major following in the country. Moreover, various organizations and establishments, especially gyms and health club centers, are being encouraged to arrange sports tournaments, such as the recently held squash tournament in Z-Club Sports and Spa, where Ibrahim Abdulfattah got the 1st place, Fawaz Halwani got the 2nd place, Omar Fayad got the 3rd place and Thamer Shaker got the 4th place. The winners received certificates, trophies, a gold medal, a silver medal, and bronze medals, respectively. Wassim Halwani, General Manager of Shawermatac, Tarek Gazzaz, owner of the Z-Club and Khaled Al Rehimi, Manager of Z-Club appreciated all the players who showed not only their skills in squash but also their awesome enjoyment and good camaraderie while doing sports and fitness. – SG
