Seminar sheds light on advances in laparoscopy

HURAYMALA — A laparoscopic surgery symposium held recently in Huraymala General Hospital (HGH) provided delegates with an opportunity to hear from renowned national experts on major developments in the field.
The featured lectures, debates and talks were selected to engage the clinical and research interests of specialists.
Topics included Principles of Laparoscopic Surgery, Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery, Video Assisted Thoracoscopy, Latrogenic Biliary Injury, Laparoscopic Surgery in Pediatric Practice and Fetoscopy. A workshop for basic laparoscopic skills was of special interest for delegates.
Hospital Director Dr. Mohammed Omar Alomayer in his address welcomed all delegates and emphasized the importance of laparoscopy's role in modern surgical practice as large numbers of patients are benefiting from it to avoid big incisions in open surgery.
He expressed sincere gratitude to Dr. Adnan S. Alabdulkareem, Director General of Health Affairs in Riyadh region, and his team for their continuous support to upgrade the level of health care professionals and for assisting HGH to have CME accreditation for this forum.
Later on, Senhat Al-Gheathi, Governor of Huraymala area, together with Dr. Mohammed Zahrani, Director of Hospitals Administration at the Directorate of Health Affairs in Riyadh region, distributed awards to distinguished speakers for their valuable participation in highlighting the latest developments in the field of laparoscopic surgery.
They included Dr. Haitham Alfalah, Consultant General, Endocrine and Bariatric Surgeon and Medical Director King Saud Medical City, Riyadh; Dr. Hamad Alqahtani, Consultant Hepato-Bilary-Pancreatic Surgeon, College of Medicine, King Saud University, Riyadh; Dr. Saad Alhamidi, Consultant Pediatric Surgeon, King Saud Medical City, Riyadh; Dr. Mohammed Almohaidly, Consultant Pediatric Laparoscopic Surgeon, Director of Pediatric General Surgery Department, Prince Sultan Military Medical City, Riyadh; Dr. Ifrat Isa Bakirov, Consultant General and Laparoscopic Surgeon and Medical Director, Huraymala General Hospital; and Dr. Yasen Alalayet Consultant Pediatric Surgeon and Chief of Pediatric Surgery Department, King Saud Medical City, Riyadh.
Chairman of symposium Dr. Ifrat Isa Bakirov in his closing remarks said the main aim in arranging this symposium was to share the laparoscopy knowledge among the surgical community. He acknowledged that recommendations given by the speakers would help improve patients' care. — SG
