Abdulrahman Al-Ali Saudi Gazette JEDDAH – The Administrative Court in Jeddah on Sunday postponed a hearing into the corruption case against an ex-mayor, his assistant and two businessmen to Sept. 25. The trial was scheduled for Sept. 23, the National Day holiday, The charges against the ex-mayor include receiving bribes, abuse of power and engaging in trade activities while holding a government job. During an earlier hearing, the ex-mayor admitted that he had a partnership with a businessman in a real estate investment venture in two planned residential districts. The businessman is also a defendant in the case. The judge asked his aides to inform prison authorities to produce in the court another businessman who is serving jail term in another case to stand trial in the corruption case. Also on Sunday, the Administrative Court handed the lawyer of six defendants in a corruption trial a copy of the 100-page verdict that acquitted them after a protracted trial that lasted for about a year. Lawyer Muhammad Abdulsattar, who defended the six, said he received the documents.
