Abdul Aziz Ghazzawi Okaz/ Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — Work is in full swing on detours on the Haramain Expressway near the King Abdullah Road and Prince Muhammad Bin Abdul Aziz (Tahliah) Road flyovers, which are set for demolition to make way for the Haramain Railway. The demolition work will start immediately after the upcoming Haj, said a technical source at the Haramain Railway Project. He said the road would be opened for traffic from under the western part of the new Briman Bridge, which would be partially completed by then. The source said the Palestine Road Bridge would not be touched. Two suspension bridges would be built in the area — one of them for entry of trains to the railway station at Al-Sulaimanyah and the other for exiting trains from the station. The suspension bridges will be 1,200 meters long. An official at the Ministry of Transport said the contractor would complete the first stage of the track building in two weeks. He said the first stage covered electric signals and construction of the rails, among other tasks. In the second stage, work will start from Kilo 290 in Al-Fara valley to Kilo 375 immediately after the completion of the first stage, the official said, adding that there will be four underpasses for movement of herds of camels and three flyovers for vehicles in this section of the railway.
