RIYADH — To celebrate its 10th anniversary Pinoy Netters Club 102 kicked off the Bayanihan Cup 2012 Team Tennis Challenge at Al-Yamama Hotel tennis courts here recently. After the opening ceremony, the 12 teams in the fray played a total of 36 matches in a single day that lasted till early morning the following day. Team Intensity 12 of Jonathan del Pilar showed why it was adjudged the Team of the Week on the opening day when it crushed team Centensiadores of president Tony Fernandez to sit atop the team standings. It proved too strong and recorded a resounding 5 sets 46 game points to Sentenciadores' 1 set, 32 game points. The Intensity team got off to an outstanding start when Bong Matutina and Giffard Oloan dispatched the tandem of Rauf Abubandar and Dennis Recio 8-5, Boy Rogel and Bong Cardino beat Jaime Vidante and Teddy Marpuri 8-6. Only the tandem of Fernandez and Joebert Ang survived the fury of the giant team winning 8-6 against JP Guiao and Roger Matira in the third game. Top seeded netters July Maniacap and Ricky Ortega were surprised by the energetic duo of Gil Gasca and Jonathan del Pilar 8-1. Emmanuel Fabria and Dexter Salona worked hard before they prevailed over Anthony Guiao and Fidel Ferrer 8-7. Rodel Lanuza and Jojo Balisi humbled Nelson Barcenas and Dodie Vizcarra 8-5 in the last game. On Center court, Bigaten of Frank Orias produced 4 sets 43 game points, which were far too good for Tennis Warriors of Ernan Santiago's 2 sets 31 game points. In the first match, Tennis Warriors team was up when Rene Balanon and Marquin Napoles silenced the tandem of Ferdie Liwanag and Voltaire Urdaneta 8-4. In the second game it was an interesting match between brothers when Abduljalil partnered Yunos Ong to defeat his older brother Ashraf and Richard Tagolgol 8-4. Marvin Tebar and Ramil Macawili nailed Frank Orias and Rey Javier 8-6 to secure the second and last win of Tennis Warriors. Willy Nicolas and Jomari Machitar got the better of Ernan Santiago and Ting Banday 8-1. Left-handed duo of Albin Guinto and Nick Lozada won over Ronnie Bigtas and Jamal Abdulrahman 8-4. In the last game, Ed Gangat and Jigs Gadiano downed Rod Parco and Allan Raagas 8-6. On Court 3, team spirit played a part in the success of Top Ten of Ed Sarmiento winning 4 sets 43 games against D' Consistence of Ed Aves 2 sets 37 games. In other games, Tenistang Pinoy of Bobot Mabini beat Teen squad team of AlSadat Bakil and Charles Gavino 4 sets 43 game points to 2 sets 30 games points. Tenistang Pinoy of Chito Umandal and Bobot Mabini beat rival Teen Squad and produced a stunning 4 sets 43 games against 2 sets 30 games. On Court 6 D'Lieutenants captained by Eric Villano leveled the match 3 sets 39 games against Green Xtreme of Ed Duco, 3 sets 38 games. The same happened in Court 1 between Xtreme Netters of Jun Aguilar, 3 sets 40 game points and Ace of Ten of Bong Bueta with 3 sets 38 games points.
