Mishal Al-Otaibi Saudi Gazette RIYADH – The family of a Saudi patient, who has been in the emergency ward of King Khaled University Hospital in Riyadh for the last 15 days, has refused to take him home blaming the hospital for his deteriorating health. The hospital has called the family members several times to the hospital asking them to take the patient home, but they refused. Muhammad Al-Enezi, the patient's brother, said the hospital committed a medical error two years ago that caused the patient to have quadriplegia. Al-Enezi said his brother was diagnosed with head cancer by one of consultants and was operated on at the hospital. “Right after the surgery, my brother slipped into a coma and stayed in that state for a month. When he regained consciousness, we found that he became quadriplegic," Al-Enezi said. He said his brother's condition deteriorated recently and he had to be admitted into KKUH. After two days in the hospital, the family was asked to come and take him home because the hospital did not have any treatment for him. Al-Enezi said the family had filed a complaint with the Ministry of Health five months after the surgery and demanded his brother get proper medical treatment for his condition, which was caused by a medical error. The case is still being studied and no decision has been taken yet, Al-Enezi said.
