JEDDAH —Mohammad Al Eisa, the Saudi cultural attaché in the United States, has stated that a Saudi student accused in the murder of an American businessman is only a suspect and remains innocent until proven guilty. Lawyers appointed by the Saudi Embassy in Washington and the cultural attaché are following up the case. American Reginald Singletary, 27, and Saudi Ziyad Obaid, 23, a student of the University of Central Missouri, were charged on Wednesday with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a young American businessman in Warrensburg, Missouri. The Johnson Country Court ordered the arrest of the Saudi student after Singletary confessed that he was paid by Obaid to murder the businessman. Obaid is detained at the county jail without bail. The prosecutors have not disclosed the motive behind the killing. Singletary had worked in a bar owned by the victim. — SG
