Over a million visitors have so far arrived in the Kingdom for Umrah at the start of summer vacations, said Director of Health Affairs in Makkah Dr. Khalid Qasim Al-Sumairi. He said seven hospitals in Makkah are in full gear to extend the best health care facilities to the visitors. Al-Sumairi said five special centers are treating acute kidney cases, performing dental surgery, and attending to cases of food poisoning. The Grand Mosque has five dispensaries attending to any emergency around the clock. They have ambulances to transport critical patients to the hospitals. The Directorate of the Health Affairs in Makkah has also opened three medical centers with all facilities on Hijra Route to Madinah to meet any emergency in case of accidents, said Al-Sumairi. Located close to the Grand Mosque, Ajiyad Hospital faces a heavy influx of sick visitors. Patients requiring long term treatment are transferred to Noor Specialist Hospital, Al-Sumairi said, adding that around 5 percent of the total number of patients are in serious condition and are given the utmost care. The Health Directorate has expanded Ajiyad Hospital's intensive care unit to 18 beds and has created a special unit with additional beds to help patients with heart problems. There is also a special emergency ward for women. __
