JEDDAH: Jeddah police last month cracked down on beggars and captured 393 people of different nationalities including four men, 268 women, and 121 children. The campaign targeted markets and main streets, officials said. Many of those arrested were falsely claiming that they were disabled; most of them were found to be illegal residents who stayed in the country after performing Umrah and Haj, according to officials. Misfer Al-Juaid, spokesman for Jeddah Police, said that since the beginning of the year, officers have captured 1,608 beggars, 201 illegal peddlers, 5,180 illegal aliens, and 312 illegal car washers.
