This refers to Ray Hanania's “Few choices in US election for choose who support peace” (Aug. 5). The New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman in one of his recent articles has urged all US politicians — Republicans and Democrats — to stop feeding off the Middle East conflicts, especially the Israeli-Palestinian issue. Mitt Romney's trip to Israel was to satisfy Jewish casino magnate Sheldon Adelson. The whole trip was about Jewish money. How much money Romney is supposed to collect himself, by saying whatever the Israeli right waited to hear and how big a jackpot of donations Adelson would shower on his campaign in return. In order to garner more Jewish votes and money, the GOP has decided to outdo the Democrats in supporting Israeli wrongdoings. This challenge has been effectively met by President Obama during the election year. He is not questioning new Israeli settlements coming up every day and not even talking about any new peace initiative for fear of being branded as anti-Israel. The increased role of money in US politics has created a situation in which no red lines concerning Israel will emerge from America anymore.
