Ramadan gives us the perfect opportunity to repent for all our unacceptable deeds, with the chance of being forgiven. This golden opportunity comes once a year when Allah increases his blessings tenfold and the best we can do is make the most of it. This month is a reminder of how we should actually be spending our lives. We should constantly remind ourselves that the behavior we adopt, the veil of goodness we wear and the sincere worship we do exclusively in this month has to be continued throughout the year. The most important aspect of Ramadan is that it is the month of the revelation of the Qur'an. Muslims commemorate the holy revelation in this month by reciting and following the commands of the Qur'an, it should not be limited to this month, but should be applied all year round. Allah said, “O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become the pious.” (Al-Baqara 2:183) To be pious we have to observe every single month of the year as being the month of Ramadan. Only by giving our best to Allah can we ensure success in our lives in this world and the world Hereafter because Allah is “The Merciful,” he overlooks our faults and grants us more than we deserve. So, we should not take Ramadan for granted but define it as a beginning of our lives afresh, and lead our lives according to the teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah. Not only adopt the good during Ramadan but also become a good person for life. As told to Nisma Rafiq/Saudi Gazette
