Citizens assisted in efforts to remove the truck from the flood canal in Makkah's Al-Sharayeh neighborhood. — Okaz photoOkaz/Saudi Gazette MAKKAH – A Civil Defense firefighter died when his truck fell into a flood canal in Al-Sharayeh neighborhood in Makkah. Pvt. Nayef Al-Masoudi, 31, was at the wheel on his way back from a rescue mission when the vehicle plunged into the canal and overturned. Col. Ali Al-Muntashiri, spokesman for Makkah Civil Defense, said two other people in the vehicle were injured. Makkah Traffic Administration (MTA) will issue a report on the accident, he added. Lt. Col. Ali Al-Zahrani, MTA spokesman, said the truck careened off the road and fell into the canal. The injured were rushed to King Faisal Hospital while the corpse of Pvt. Al-Masoudi was taken to the morgue at the same hospital. “Investigators are still trying to find out the cause of the accident," he said. Pvt. Al-Masoudi's colleagues said he was a good man who performed his prayers on time and maintained good relations with them.
