Transforming traditional dresses into beautiful modern attires is an art which requires a lot of creativity. And, young Saudi dress designer Nabila Nazir does it best.
Nazir, initially started her profession as a fashion designer before turning into a fashion stylist. Her dresses are very popular amongst the modern and traditional Arabs residing in the Kingdom. Nazir's elaborate and illustrative collection caters to every generation in a trendy way.
The hijazi fashionista was involved in fashion from a very age. “Fashion is a lifestyle for me, the way one eats, walks or even sleeps are all included in fashion.”
Standing out in the crowd was Nazir's aim. “One theory I have is that since I have always been an extremely keen about my dressing and style, and clothing was something that drew my attention toward it,” she added.
Sensing her desire for designing, Nazir's family supported her in pursuing her passion of fashion. Nazir graduated in marketing from King Abdul Aziz University in Jeddah, later going to London to obtain a degree in fashion designing.
Her love for fashion holds no bounds. However, Nazir loves her culture and Heshma (dignity) and that is why traditional designs appeal her. With a dash of creativity she fashionably blends modernity with traditionally.
She admitted watching old Egyptian soaps and movies to gain an insight of their traditional fashion.
Nazir believes that women should dress up stylishly at all times and not just for parties.
She said she doesn't only create party wear dresses, in fact her designer clothes are suitable for every aspect of life. Nazir added that her new collection is for all those ladies who want to look and feel different and special. Her new bridal collection boasts of fine sartorial tailoring and exquisite designing.
Colors and fabrics play a pivotal role while designing an outfit. Nazir said she likes to play around with colors and experiment with various color combinations with different type of fabrics.
Buying dresses is not enough, Nazir said women should also know how to wear them properly and accessorize them perfectly, not with anything they can get their hands on. Therefore, Nazir also advises women on how to dress up, which hairstyle to make and make-up to wear. “It's all about creating a whole new look.” Nazir strives to satisfy her customers at all times.
For being successful in the fashion field, Nazir said one should know how to sew, draft patterns, drape and sketch.
Some of Nazir's favorite designers are Saab, Roberto Cavalli and John Galliano. Her advise to all fashion-oriented personnel is to start making new clothes in order to be distinct, and of course work hard as that paves the way for success.
