(SG photo by Syeda Amtul) THE Disabled Children's Association (DCA) Makkah and Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia recently joined hands for “Youth-produced Handicraft Exhibtion and Cultural Performances” event organized by DCA, held at the “Al-Zikra Al-Khalidah” Hall in Makkah recently. The event's theme was “Their Smile is in Your Hands”, as the event was aimed at raising funds for the care of children with special needs in the Kingdom. The occasion was attended by 300 guests, including a group of DCA children. The team from the Indonesian Consulate showcased handicrafts, educational toys and games during the exhibition – produced by disabled people in Indonesia – which were specially presented to DCA Makkah as a symbol of solidarity and care for their members. In addition, the team also staged performances drawing from the wealth of Indonesian culture, including traditional dances and a fashion show exhibiting traditional Indonesian dress. The wife of the Indonesian Consul General, Hamidah Zakaria Anshar, was present at the event and said that the Consulate felt very honored “to be amidst such special kids and to share smiles and happiness with them as well as help turn their dreams into reality”. “I believe that with heartfelt care and dedication, we will be able to help them become sucessful and independent individuals in the future. Disability does not mean inability. Disability does not necessarily become a hindrance to actively participate in and contribute to nation-building,” she remarked. DCA, a social institution under the patronage of Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz, provides special education and rehabilitative and medical services for disabled children.
