JEDDAH — Another person injured in last month's explosion at a restaurant in south Jeddah's Al-Wazereya district succumbed to injuries Monday raising the death toll from the accident to 10, said Maj. Gen. Abdullah Jeddawi, director of Civil Defense in the city. The man was hospitalized with severe burns following the fire and explosion at the restaurant on June 24. At least 24 people were injured in the explosion that rocked the area in the early morning hours. “We're still waiting for the final report which will show the real cause of the accident. We used the help of some experts from King Abdulaziz University's College of Engineering in our investigation,” he said. The victims' families have demanded stringent punishment to anyone found responsible for the fatal explosion. The owner of the restaurant, who is freed on bail, is facing investigation and will be prosecuted if he was found negligent in complying with safety regulations, Jeddawi said. He said there was clear evidence that the restaurant was lacking in safety measures. — SG
