Abdulrahman Al-Ali Saudi GazetteJEDDAH — Two victims of a gas cylinder blast that occurred in a Jeddah restaurant succumbed to their injuries on Tuesday. The blast, which happened in Al-Wazereya district in South Jeddah on Sunday, injured 22 others and completed destroyed the restaurant. Jeddah Health Affairs said the names of the two victims were Abdullah Al-Harthi and Ahmad Al-Shamrani. Al-Harthi, 25, suffered burns to 100 percent of his body while Al-Shamrani, 57, suffered burns to 80 percent of his body. Both were in critical condition in the intensive care until they died. The health affairs said that there are two other patients who suffered from similar burns and their condition was listed as critical. Eight patients suffered from burns to over 50 percent of their bodies. Three of the cases received treatment and were discharged from the hospital. Earlier, Gen. Abdullah Jeddawi, Director General of Civil Defense in Jeddah, put the blame for Sunday's gas cylinder explosion on the restaurant's owner. He said that there was evidence that the restaurant was in violation of several safety codes.
