Ahmad Abdullah Saudi GazetteJEDDAH – Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah region, has said the country's “development journey" will not stop and will continue for years to come. Prince Khaled made the remarks while concluding his annual inspection visits to the region Monday. He put the total value of new projects, including those currently under way, in Qunfudah and Al-Laith governorates at SR5.8 billion. In a press statement, Prince Khaled said he met with members of the local councils in both governorates. He said most of the gigantic infrastructure projects had been completed while a few had been stalled for various reasons. Projects worth SR2.8 billion have been implemented in Qunfudah alone. In the education sector, 60 projects worth SR200 million were completed while 65 projects worth SR270 million are currently being implemented in the governorate. A technology college and an industrial institute are being built at a total cost of SR115 million. Civic projects worth SR415.9 million were implemented in different parts of the governorate and they included public parks and repaving of streets. In the health sector, seven projects worth a total of SR135 million are being implemented. They include three new hospitals. In the electricity sector, different projects worth SR27.8 million have been carried out. Al-Laith governorate saw completion of civic projects worth a total of SR260 million. The cost of projects being implemented is estimated at SR66.9 million. New projects worth SR24.5 million have been approved. In the education sector, 20 out of 58 approved projects have been completed at total cost of SR77.3 million. The remaining 38 projects worth SR133.5 million are in various phases. In the health sector, work is under way for the new 100-bed Al-Laith General Hospital, which will cost SR114.1 million. Five other projects are being carried out and another three will be implemented soon. The water and drainage sector has seen several projects with costs exceeding SR44.4 million. The cost of road projects implemented in the governorate reached SR866.3 million while the cost of new roads being built was estimated at SR997.7 million.
