MAKKAH – With trade figures indicating that the current development projects in Makkah need approximately 600,000 cubic meters of ready mix concrete per month, the price has risen to SR240 per cubic meter. Naif Al-Zaidi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Zaidi Ready Mix Concrete Factory, said Makkah has been witnessing a construction boom. As a result, there is a high demand for work in concrete factories to prepare sufficient quantities of concrete to meet the needs of projects being carried out. Speaking during a celebration Saturday to mark the factory's winning of the ISO certification, Al-Zaidi said there was a 35 percent increase in the price of ready mix concrete. He expects the prices to continue rising due to the closure of quarries that supply the factories with basic raw materials for the preparation of concrete. The rise in prices has caused several projects to be placed on hold. — SG
