CROMWELL, Connecticut – Briton Brian Davis continued to tear up the front nine at TPC River Highlands and it helped him gain a share of the lead at the Travelers Championship after the third round Saturday. The Englishman shot a sizzling six-under par 64 to hold the 54-hole lead with American Roland Thatcher on a 12-under total of 198. Davis reaped seven birdies from the first eight holes to make the turn in 29 before finishing with just a birdie and a bogey over his final nine. Thatcher rolled in six birdies and a bogey in his 65, but dropped a shot on the 17th hole that cost him the outright lead, having taken top spot with three consecutive birdies from the 13th. The leaders were two shots clear of Americans John Rollins (65) and James Driscoll (66), and Australian Stuart Appleby (67). Defending champion Fredrik Jacobson of Sweden was among a group of six a shot further back, including triple major-winning Irishman Padraig Harrington (65) and American Matt Kuchar (66). Park opens two-shot lead Former US Women's Open winner Inbee Park shot a five-under 66 to seize a two-shot lead after the third round of the LPGA Tour's Manulife Financial Classic at Waterloo, Canada, Saturday. South Korea's Park completed 54 holes at 14-under par 199 at the Grey Silo course. Park made birdie on the par-five 18 after posting a bogey on the par-three 17th hole. Brittany Lang and Hee Kyung Seo each shot four-under 67 to reach 12-under, and Swede Anna Nordqvist is alone in fourth place at 10 under following a 67. Feng Shanshan, of China, was nine-under along with Karin Sjodin, Nicole Hage and Sandra Changkija, who led after the opening round. Feng is coming off a major victory two weeks ago at the LPGA Championship.
Willett clinches Cologne title England's Danny Willett claimed his first European Tour title at the rain-lashed BMW International Open Sunday, beating Australia's Marcus Fraser on the fourth hole of a play-off. Overnight leader Willett had been three clear after eight holes of the final round, but saw his lead cut after bogeys at the ninth, 11th and 15th and finished on 73 to be 11-under for the tournament and tied with Fraser. But he held his nerve on the fourth hole of the sudden-death play-off when he tapped in after Fraser had three-putted. Joint-third, one behind were Ireland's Paul McGinley, Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano and England's Chris Wood.— Agencies
