Ronaldo Z. Concha Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — Several undocumented Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Jeddah sought the assistance of Philippine's Vice President Jejomar Binay when he visited Jeddah last week. Binay met the distressed OFWs currently housed at the Filipino Workers Resource Center (FWRC) maintained by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to personally check on their status. 11 of the 33 distressed domestic helpers will be able to go home soon after Binay promised to help them resolve their problems. Binay arrived in Jeddah Wednesday morning to convey the country's condolences to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah on the passing of Crown Prince Naif. The veep also met three distressed OFWs in a private meeting organized by the Kaagapay ng Bawat OFW advocacy group. The three men, all in their 60s, sought Binay's assistance to be repatriated. One of the men, 65-year-old Tatay Ador said he was unable to transfer his residency permit when he was released by his company almost a decade ago. Ador said he suffered a stroke last December and was no longer able to work. Binay instructed the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah to speed up the paperwork so the three men could return home as soon as possible. The three men thanked Binay for his help. “We are thankful to the vice president and we hope to go home soon before it's too late. We don't want to go home in a box," they said.
