Abid Khazindar Al-Riyadh Newspaper When the Technical & Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) governor's promise of creating four million jobs in 10 years did not come true, he quickly backtracked and denied ever making the claim. He however, did concede that a large number of jobs needed to be created to cope with the Kingdom's rising population. Estimates from the Ministry of Labor and Central Department of Statistics & Information (CDSI) confirmed the governor's statement. Furthermore, the governor shifted the blame on the Eastern Province Chamber of Commerce and Industry and said it had distorted the truth and the TVTC was not able to create such a large number of jobs. If we are to accept that the TVTC is not responsible for securing or providing jobs for its graduates, then the question remains – who is responsible? If a government agency tasked with training our university graduates and helping them find employment cannot do its job then who can? Certainly not the private sector which will just import manpower, leaving our growing unemployment problem unaddressed. After all, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of jobs in the private sector occupied by expatriate workers that could be occupied by Saudis if the organization did its job properly. However, it is evident by the sheer number of unemployed TVTC graduates, that the organization is not doing its job. The organization can only achieve its goals if it studies the requirements of the job market and trains its graduates accordingly.
