A senior official in Madinah Municipality is under investigation over corruption charges. He was caught red-handed while accepting some electric appliances from an expatriate as a bribe. Police sources told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that the official demanded the bribe in lieu of processing a business license for the expatriate's sponsor. He promised the expatriate to grant him the license once the goods had been provided. The official asked the expatriate to keep the matter secret and not tell his sponsor about it. However, the expatriate told his sponsor who reported the matter to the police. The police asked them to cooperate with the official and provide him with the bribe so he could be caught red-handed. Upon receipt of the goods, he was arrested and handed over to the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution. This is the second corruption case involving a municipality official in Madinah. In the first one, a contractor, who was awarded a public project, received his compensation from a municipality official even before starting work. __
