Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah, will announce Saturday the launch of Dhaheyet Somu Project on Makkah-Jeddah Highway. The project will be implemented in an area of a million and a half square meters. Bawabat Makkah Company, an offshoot of Al-Balad Al-Ameen Company, owned by Makkah Mayoralty, will start Saturday working on the investment project at the western district of Makkah. The project seeks to expedite the process of development in the western sector of Makkah. It will be co-implemented by the public and private sectors in line with a well-studied design which will provide comprehensive urban solutions. Residential units, parks, mosques, educational as well as health and entertainment institutions and facilities will be constructed. The total area of the project is 85 million square meters and the location is 31 kilometers away from the Grand Mosque. It stretches from Makkah-Jeddah Old Highway up to Leith Road south and the 5th Ring Road (Al-Shumaisi Road) north. Eighty percent of the total area of the project falls within the Haram boundaries. Moreover, a university, medical centers, a national park, a full entertainment complex and cultural centers such as museums will be built. Bawabat Makkah Company is a share-holding company with a board of directors headed by the Makkah mayor and the chairman of the board of director of the mother company. The company aims to turn the area between Makkah Gate and the holy city into a residential area with 40 districts, according to a 15-year development plan. __
