Residents of the Huraimela Governorate were shocked to hear about the death of a family of six – Saad Ibrahim Al-Ratik, his wife and their four children – after their car collided with a heavy truck on the Huraimela-Salboukh-Riyadh road last week. According to witnesses, the driver of the truck fled the scene but he was quickly arrested due to the coordinated efforts of the Huraimela Traffic Department and Police, Al-Jazirah newspaper reported Thursday. Residents of the governorate gathered in the Huraimela Mosque to mourn the dead. The Huraimela-Salboukh-Riyadh road has been the scene of numerous accidents. In another recent accident, a man and woman died, while three women were transferred to the intensive care unit after suffering serious injuries. Residents have long called on authorities to enforce a directive that bans heavy trucks from using the road between 6 P.M. and 5 A.M. The 40-kilometer road is called the “death road” by locals due to its narrow lanes, dangerous intersections and the presence of heavy trucks.
