The Egyptian community in Jeddah celebrated the launch of their very own Women's Association. Designed to foster harmonious relations between Egyptians and reflective of the positive role women play in the family and society in general, the women's association will provide cultural, social, scientific and sports services for members and their families. To mark the launch, the association organized an “Egyptian Family Day” at their consulate in the presence of Egypt's Consul General Aly El Ashiry. The day-long festival was a blend of cultural, social, artistic and scientific activities for all to enjoy. Some of the most popular activities on the day were the art shows for kids, Naubian handicrafts, Pharaonic and Bedouin souvenirs exhibition and a training and human resources development seminar by Usama Abu El Ela. As with all festivals of this type, food also played an important role with the famous dessert “Um Ali” taking center stage. “Motivated by enthusiasm, and in collaboration with the consulate, it took us 15 days to configure the association. Despite the association's strict criteria that the member should be talented, cooperative and proactive, the newly born association has already attracted 150 members and many more are expected,” said Dr. Sawsan Rohaiem, professor physiology at King Abdulaziz University, who is the newly-appointed head of the association. __
