An Afghan national accused of killing his compatriot and dumping his body in a sewage well last week broke down and provided details of the gruesome crime of decapitation to investigators. The accused (A.P.) claimed that the victim persisted in harassing him, and that he had never intended to kill him. “An ethical reason prompted me to attack him and then I lost my self-control. When he tried to come close to me, I took a knife and killed him. I then separated the head from the body, which I disposed off in the sewage tank. I wrapped the head and threw it in a nearby plot.” The deceased was an LP gas vendor. The headless body in the Kilo 14 neighborhood was discovered by a truck driver who immediately informed authorities. Brig. Misfer Juaid, spokesman of Jeddah Police, said, “Evidence and fingerprinting experts examined the body and focused their investigations on searching for suspects of the same nationality within the vicinity of Kilo 14. The investigators' mission was difficult due to lack of identification on the headless body and the absence of any missing report.” Misfer added, “DNA and fingerprint samples were taken and submitted to the information center in the Criminal Evidence Department, whereby the deceased Afghan's identity was established. He was a vendor in a gas shop who had disappeared three days before the body was discovered. Also, the removed head was found in a site near the crime scene.” During a search of the victim's residence, a new carpet with faint blood spots was discovered by the investigators. It was apparent that someone had tried to remove all traces of the blood but succeeded only partially. Questioning nearby residents revealed that the Afghan who had delivered the carpet to the victim some days back had also gone missing. Working overtime, the crime unit finally located the man who broke down and confessed his crime. __
