General Motors has registered record-breaking sales figures in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the first quarter of 2012, the company said in a statement Sunday. Cadillac, GM's luxury brand, increased sales by 63 percent during the first quarter, driven by sales of the new SRX (up 139 percent), the CTS (up 76 percent) and the Kingdom's most popular full-size luxury SUV, the Cadillac Escalade (up 78 percent). GMC increased sales by 52 percent due to growing demand for its popular line-up of crossovers, SUVs and pickups. Sales of the Sierra full-size pickup and the Yukon full-size SUV were up 75 percent and 66 percent, respectively. Chevrolet registered a 29 percent sales uplift driven by sales of its passenger cars and crossovers. Sales of the Cruze were up 130 percent, the Traverse experienced a 43 percent gain in sales, while the recently launched Sonic exceeded its sales forecast for the first quarter. Chevrolet's popular Silverado full-size pickup saw a 146 percent rise in sales, while the Tahoe full-size SUV registered a 70 percent gain. – SG The strong sales of all three brands in the Kingdom contributed to total sales of 17,272 vehicles in the first quarter of 2012, up 39 percent compared to the same period last year.
