The first ever center for the early detection of cancer in the Eastern Province will open in two months' time, said Abdul Aziz Bin Ali Al-Turki, chairman of the Gulf Union for Combating Cancer and chairman of the Eastern Province's Saudi Cancer Society. He said the establishment of the Mai Al-Jabr Center for the Early Detection of Cancer reflects the importance oncologists place in the early det ection of the fatal disease, adding that it greatly increases the chances for successful treatment. He said there are two major components of the early detection of cancer: education to promote early diagnosis and screening. He said an agreement for the establishment of the center has been signed with the Industrial Cities Commission, which donated the 6,000 sq. m. of land for the project.
