The Ministry of Health has been urged to train more medical professionals and set up more clinics to help the visually impaired in the Kingdom. Mohammed Tawfeeq Bellow, Secretary General of the Ebsar Foundation, said that there is a shortage of specialized public and private clinics. There are only two in the country, the Ebsar Foundation that was established in 2005 and King Fahd Medical City in Riyadh which started its work in 2006. Bellow said there are an estimated one million people in the Kingdom suffering from visual disabilities. He said more students should be trained in the field under the scholarship program of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. There are 1,500 people with various forms of visual impairment registered at the Ebsar Foundation. About 75 percent have shown improvement after receiving training and visual aids, he added. __
