An expatriate worker was freed after 15 days in detention when the Passports Department found that he had not broken the law. The man, whose name was withheld, was arrested from his workplace by Passports personnel who found that his Iqama (work permit) showed a different employer. Labor regulations stipulate that foreigners must work only for their work-permit sponsor. The man, however, had not broken the law. Brig. Gen. Muhammad Bin Hasan Al-Asmari, Director of Makkah Province Passports Department, told National Society of Human Rights (NSHR) that the worker was arrested and referred to expatriates administration but when it became clear that his sponsor and the company he was working for had signed a valid work contract, the man was released. – Okaz __
