Australia turned around the first Test against the West Indies Tuesday with a great rearguard action from its tailenders and then three quick wickets from Ben Hilfenhaus leaving the host reeling. Australia recovered from 250 for seven to declare on 406 for nine after Ryan Harris made an unbeaten 68 and last man Nathan Lyon scored 40 not out. The final pair added 77 runs and pushed Australia into a position where Clarke was able to make a declaration. West Indies then lost three wickets for just four runs in a brief session before tea as Hilfenhaus bowled Adrian Barath (2) and had Kraigg Brathwaite (0) caught behind in the third over. Hilfenhaus then trapped Kirk Edwards (1) leg before and West Indies went in for tea with a lead of just 47 runs and seven seconds innings wickets left. West Indies had kept the pressure on Australia on day three with the tourists restricted at the close to 248 for five in 95 overs. Skipper Michael Clarke (73) was the backbone of the Australian batting as they labored in reply to West Indies' 449-9 declared. Clarke said his batsmen had been restricted by some smart bowling from their opponents on a surface which was starting to help the bowlers.
